How to download a CIBC eStatement
In Online Banking
- On the Online Banking homepage, select My Documents.
- Under Account Documents, select Account statements and choose the account.
- Pick a statement by date, and it downloads as a PDF.
In the CIBC Mobile Banking app
- Tap More, then My documents.
- Select Account statements and choose the account.
- Select the statement you want to view.
CIBC eStatements carry the same information as mailed statements: an account summary with opening balance, total withdrawals, total deposits and closing balance, then transaction details in withdrawals, deposits and balance columns. They come in English or French, depending on your language preference.
For deposit accounts, last month's eStatement appears on the second or third business day of the month.
CIBC's transaction download
In Online Banking, Download Transactions exports one account at a time as a spreadsheet (CSV) or for QuickBooks, Quicken, Simply Accounting or MYOB. You can choose transactions since your last download, a date range, or everything from the last 13 months.
Where it falls short
- 13 months maximum. For older periods, the eStatements are the record.
- Recent days are missing. The current day and the previous two business days aren't included.
- There's a download limit. If a period has too many transactions, CIBC asks you to choose a shorter date range.
- It's not the statement. Lenders, accountants and auditors usually want the statement period with its balances.
Statement copies from CIBC cost $5 each for most personal accounts, or $10 for a credit card statement copy, so the PDFs you can already download are the cheaper source.
Converting a CIBC PDF statement
- Upload one or more CIBC eStatements. Batch upload handles a year of monthly statements at once.
- Pick the output: Excel, CSV, JSON, Xero CSV, or QuickBooks 3- or 4-column CSV.
- Download one transaction per row, with date, description, withdrawals, deposits and balance in separate columns.
Amounts stay in dollars, and dates are written out consistently, so check that your accounting software's import date setting matches.
Getting CIBC data into QuickBooks or Xero
- QuickBooks: choose the 3- or 4-column CSV and upload it from file. QuickBooks Online Canada takes up to 1,000 lines per upload and requires the file to be in English.
- Xero: choose Xero CSV and import it as a bank statement for the matching account.
CIBC business clients can connect SmartBanking to QuickBooks Online or Xero for $5 a month each. For periods before the feed, convert the statements and import them. CIBC credit card eStatements convert with the credit card statement converter.
