How to download a Scotiabank statement
In online banking
- Select the account from the home screen.
- In the Account section of the side menu, select Statements.
- Select a monthly statement to download, or Download all as PDF for the whole current year. Use the dropdown for previous years, up to 7 years.
On the classic online banking layout, select the account, then Documents, and choose the statement.
In the Scotia app
- Select your bank account from the home screen.
- Select Manage, then View all statements.
Scotiabank's transaction download
Personal and small business online banking lets you download the transactions in a chosen statement period, in QuickBooks (QBO) or Quicken (QFX) format, from the account screen. To get every transaction in the period, select Load more until the statement period total appears, then use the download icon.
That's handy if you use QuickBooks Desktop or Quicken. It's less handy when you need:
- A spreadsheet. Excel and CSV exports are documented for ScotiaConnect, Scotiabank's commercial platform, not for personal online banking.
- The statement itself, with its period and balances, for a lender, accountant or audit.
- A client's records, when they've only sent PDFs.
Copies of statements from Scotiabank cost $5 each for personal accounts and $10 for an extra copy on business accounts, so the PDFs you can download are the practical source.
Converting a Scotiabank PDF statement
- Upload your Scotiabank PDFs, including a year downloaded with Download all as PDF. Batch upload handles a year of monthly statements at once.
- Pick the output: Excel, CSV, JSON, Xero CSV, or QuickBooks 3- or 4-column CSV.
- Download one transaction per row, with date, description, amounts and balance in separate columns.
Amounts stay in dollars, and dates are written out consistently, so check that your accounting software's import date setting matches.
Getting Scotiabank data into QuickBooks or Xero
- QuickBooks: choose the 3- or 4-column CSV and upload it from file. QuickBooks Online Canada takes up to 1,000 lines per upload.
- Xero: choose Xero CSV and import it as a bank statement for the matching account.
Scotiabank and Xero offer automatic bank feeds for small businesses. For periods before the feed was connected, convert the statements and import them. Scotiabank credit card statements convert with the credit card statement converter.
